-mentioned sections. It can hardly be maintained that these

covered Low Pressure Conductors are more dangerous to the safety

of the general public than bare 500 volt Tramway Trolley Wires.

SYSTEM No. 4.

This system of distribution complies in

general with the Board of Trade Regulations bearing on it.

SYSTEM X.. 5.

The Series Direct Current Street Lighting

I

Arc Lamp System comes under this heading and the supply is

furnished entirely by means of overhead wires. The Conductors

are stranded 7 No. 16 S.W.G. Copper Wires insulated with pure

and vulcanized India Rubber and braided. They are supported by

steel bearer strands in a similar manner to the High Pressure

Conductors described under System No. 3, above, and in

general the remarks therein made with reference to the High

Pressure Overhead Conductors apply to these Arc Light ing

Conductors.

In conclusion, I would beg to submit that

the Board of Trade Regulations, No. V (Model description of

Overhead Line Construction) would be prohibitive and unworkable

if enforced as regards any existing Overhead Lines in this

Colony. I would submit that these Regulations have been drawn

up with a view to totally dissimilar conditions to those

existing here and are unworkable for the control of Overhead

Lines for the service of small and scattered consumers and for

the service of Street Arc Lighting. I believe I am correct in

stating that these Regulations have specially in view the

establishment of long distance Electric Transmission Lines with

bare conductors working at Extra High Pressure. They are meant o

to control what may be termed "Trunk" operations across country and seemingly do not contemplate the use of overhead distribu-

-tion to small consumers or Street Arc Lighting,

Sections Nos. 7 and 11 for prevention of

access to the Lines of any person by elimbing, can hardly be enforced here as the Arc Lamps have to be visited daily for the purpose of trimming and these Arc Lamps are carried on the same

poles
